Resumen del Editor

“[Pratchett’s] books are almost always better than they have to be, and Going Postal is no exception, full of nimble wordplay, devious plotting and outrageous situations, but always grounded in an astute understanding of human nature.” — San Francisco Chronicle

Another brilliant installment in New York Times bestselling author Sir Terry Pratchett's beloved Discworld seriesa splendid send-up of government, the postal system, and everything that lies in between. This new audiobook recording is narrated by Richard Coyle (Moist von Lipwig in the television adaptation of Going Postal), with Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reading the footnotes and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace) starring as the voice of Death.

Suddenly, condemned arch-swindler Moist von Lipwig found himself with a noose around his neck and dropping through a trapdoor into . . . a government job?

By all rights, Moist should be meeting his maker rather than being offered a position as Postmaster by Lord Vetinari, supreme ruler of Ankh-Morpork. Getting the moribund Postal Service up and running again, however, may prove an impossible task, what with literally mountains of decades-old undelivered mail clogging every nook and cranny of the broken-down post office. Worse still, Moist could swear the mail is talking to him. Worst of all, it means taking on the gargantuan, greedy Grand Trunk clacks communication monopoly and its bloodthirsty piratical headman. But if the bold and undoable are what's called for, Moist's the man for the job—to move the mail, continue breathing, get the girl, and specially deliver that invaluable commodity that every being, human or otherwise requires: hope.

The Discworld novels can be enjoyed in any order but Going Postal is the 33rd Discworld book and the first in the Moist von Lipwig collection, which also includes:

  • Making Money
  • Raising Steam

Making the post interesting

I found myself continuously fascinated by the subtle lessons about economies of scale, currency, market forces, and corporate espionage that Pratchett includes in the story. Long gone are the days of Octarine fire and invisible dragons. Those have been replaced with grounded fiction somewhere between historical and fantasy. Pratchett's clever style and quick wit remain constant though.

Great audio performance

Richard Coyle reprises his performance as Moist Von Lipwig in this fantastic edition of Going Postal. Coyle does an amazing job with all of the characters. Looking forward to Coyle’s rendition of Making Money.

Sir Terry understands the world.

I’m not talking about disc world, Sir Terry understood people and how things work. His work is full of humor and truth. A fun and funny book. Read/listen to them all.

One of the three greatest Discworld books!

This book alongside guards guards! And Small Gods are truly the best books within the Discworld series. You can tell Sir Terry really put his great talent into these three books!

Richard Coyle is Moist Von Lipwig

I love Stephen Briggs reading of this book. Richard Coyles reading is as good if not better. I love this book so much.

Great book

It was the competition between forces somewhat good and bad represented by Pratchett's wonderful characters that kept me interested and quite entertained.

Another Terry Pratchett Masterpiece!

You can usually guarantee that a book by Terry Pratchett is going to be a thoughtfully fun ride, and this one was no exception. The narrator also did a really good job reading it. I don't think there was a single voice he did that I didn't like. I've also listened to the sequel, Making Money, and it's just as much fun. I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a good book to listen to!

This is a great book

The book was quite amazing. I really did have a hard time putting it down. It moved me in ways that made me genuinely feel sad about how the post office fell into ruins, and cheer for it to succeed. I did also got a laugh it to when I started to see similarity with corporations or government officials are all just con men. Each of the characters had a form a weight to them making you want to know how everything work out for them in latter stories. I do hope in one of the future books I read from disk world that I get to catch a glimpse of how the post office is doing. Final thoughts, I would definitely rate the book 5 out of 5.
