Resumen del Editor

Borderline Personality Disorder. "What the hell was that?" raged Rachel Reiland when she read the diagnosis written in her medical chart. As the 29-year-old accountant, wife, and mother of young children would soon discover, it was the diagnosis that finally explained her explosive anger, manipulative behaviors, and self-destructive episodes - including bouts of anorexia, substance abuse, and sexual promiscuity. With astonishing honesty, Reiland's memoir reveals what mental illness feels like and looks like from the inside, and how healing from such a devastating disease is possible through intensive therapy and the support of loved ones.

Long book but interesting story

I liked Rachel’s perspective on recovering from her illness and the scenes with her and her therapist. But fair warning - it is longggggg!

Soul searching

This book paints a good picture of how awful BPD is but also the different roles it plays in the people around you. Your parents created you, they want you to be nothing like you are but yet they are the ones who masterminded your upbringing. This book shows all that. So many tearful moments. Amazing book!

Courageous and inspiring

As someone who feels that I closely relate to Tim in this book, I am grateful for the courage and vulnerability it took to write a story so raw and personal. I’m reading this at a time when my wife and I have separated. I don’t know if this is what she suffers from but I’m praying for a miracle like the one in this story. I’ve never felt so emotionally moved by a book as I have by this one. Many of the personal stories and anecdotes feeling so relatable as a supporter of someone struggling with a mental illness. We’re still so far, as a global society, from de-stigmatizing mental illness but every story told like this one that dares to tell the world what it’s like to struggle, and remove barriers, gets us closer to a world more accepting of mental illness. This story needs to be told on a bigger stage. I hope one day more people are able to hear these words and feel the pain the author poured into sharing her experience. Thank you, Rachel and Tim.

great Book

What did you love best about Get Me Out of Here?

This is such an amazing book. This book gives you insight into one persons struggle with BPD that no other books can do. There are alot of helpful books about BPD but this is the only one written from a first person which is brilliant. If you know and love anyone who struggles with BPD you will relate to many of Rachel's stories. Not all stories will apply to your situation but I guarantee many will.

Any additional comments?

This book really hit home for me. There were parts of the book so closely aligned to my personal experience that it brought me to tears. When your dealing with a person with BPD the hardest thing to do is to remain empathetic. I found it difficult to put this book down. Its by far the best book I have ever read. I even learned some techniques from Dr Paghot to help me with my significant other. BPD is so Difficult to deal with and so misunderstood. This book restores hope that you can win against this disorder.

Honest and Encouraging

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I have been searching for an encouraging first person account of mental illness and finally found it in this book. Mental illness is a real and devastating. It affects the patient as well as the patient's family, friends, and work mates. I wish that all who are afflicted by this disease could be so fortunate to have such a caring and skilled doctor.

Any additional comments?

I would be interested to hear more from Rachel's husband. How did he cope with his wife's illness in such a supportive manner? What kept him from not giving up?

A touching realistic look into one woman’s journey with BPD

Not only is this book incredibly well written, it is also an insightful look at the pain and struggle that goes along with this horrible mental illness, and the devastation that it causes all who are exposed to it. I myself was on the receiving end of abuse and violence from a partner with BPD. I have forgiven her and reading this book is one more step into my own recovery.

BPD to this day is one of the most misdiagnosed and misunderstood mental Illnesses. It is often swept under the rug even from therapists not wanting to deal with the difficulty and intense dedication it takes to heal someone with it.

My own partner was misdiagnosed as bipolar with anxiety and depression. I luckily stumbled across BPD while researching her symptoms. That lead to a journey of recovery she is still on. I will share this book with as many people I can to help bring awareness to the illness. As one of my fellow BPD survivors once said, “It is the sadness of the world”’
