Gentleness in John of the Cross

The teaching of St John of the Cross, the sixteenth-century Saint of Carmel, is sometimes considered to be forbiddingly austere, yet closer acquaintance with his works shows that, when God is drawing us, there is a movement towards gentleness. Through Thomas Kane’s insight into, and exposition of, John’s teaching, we see how God uses our everyday routines, obligations and choices to transform both our prayer and our lives.
