Resumen del Editor

Artificial intelligence has been developed to a point where human intelligence can be uploaded into a computer, achieving a sort of hybrid immortality. Astronaut Christian Brannock welcomes this technology, technology that will make it possible for him to achieve his dream and explore the stars.

A billion years later, Brannock is dispatched to Earth to check on some strange anomalies. While there, he meets Laurinda Ashcroft, another hybrid upload. Brannock and Laurinda join forces and investigate Gaia, the supermind dominating the planet, and learn the truth of her terrifying, secret plans for Earth.

I'll read it in person....

This story is so...disjointed. It feels like a book meant to be read. Listening to it probably does not have the same effect.

Could not finish it...

Characters seemed too pompous...not an enjoyable read....did not like the narrators voice for the female character... This narrator did an excellent job in the Draco Tavern by Larry Niven.

A Hidden Masterpiece - please! give it a chance

This is Poul Anderson's late era masterpiece. The leading expert of his works, Sandra Miesel, agrees. It is a poetic meditation on creation and artificial intelligence that is unlike anything he has ever written.

Tom Weiner does a fine enough job reading this, although you probably need to follow along with the text. As some have said, it may be too complex for an audiobook alone. But you must be patient and give it time

(after all - Part II of this book follows 1 billion years later than Part I - that'd be hard to follow in any audiobook.)

Summa summarum - I will plead, a book of this quality does not deserve this low rating. Somehow and someway, Poul managed to overcome his regrettable preachy tendencies in Harvest of Stars to gather up all his strengths and create this work - which is light years ahead of that entire series in quality (although it benefits from drawing on the adventurous themes of those books). I hope fans will finally come to land here and realize "Genesis" for the beauty that it is.
