With chaos comes opportunity.

The world is at the brink of disaster, and the demigods want him dead.

Derk knows the tribulations he faces force him into perilous situations, but with Tyla and Tasnia sworn to his side, he might save things yet.

With new and unproven allies, plus a mysterious elf named Diane, now he must navigate intrigue and assassins to build his power enough to fend off those who pursue him.

Should be simple, right? Nobody wins without taking a few risks, after all.

Continue Derk's adventure in this gripping second installment.

Loved it. I have listened to a few books with Marcus Jahn narrating and he is doing great bringing these characters to life. Sarah Goldstein is doing a fantastic job aswell.

Solid second book

I was happy with the second installment of this series. good pacing and the world is developing nicely. both narrators were good and much improved from the first, not that it was bad in the first one. but it seemed much more seamless. bring on 3.

good follow up

A review requires at least 15 words. Well I listened to and liked the first book, so now I've listened to and liked the second book. The third book is not yet available on audible so I will begin reading it soon. I hope the fact that I am completing the full series is enough of a review to convince you to give it a try.

Pretty good Isekai fantasy

So Derk now has a water mage and a fire mage and looks like there's an Elf that needs their help and doesn't have her memories.
His benefactor is being helpful but not in the way Derk wants.
He's continually growing stronger and helping to free others from the control of the demigods.
Definitely an exciting story and series. I'm really enjoying the characters and action.

Adding more women and kicking more a**.

This was a great continuation of this story! I’m really enjoying how this story is moving forward and how the characters are all having to grow stronger individually and as a group.

Fantastic narration duo!

I first read this book when it was on Kindle Vella and have been impatiently waiting for the audio version ever since. I actually took a nap after work so I could be up when the book was released. Okay so I fell asleep right after work and woke up at 3am and realized my pre-order was live. Happy coincidence that's all.

The progression of this book is steady without dragging it out. There's enough plot advancement, excitement, fighting and sexy times to keep things moving along. One thing I appreciate is that the sexy times are never just page fillers but happen naturally throughout the story. This is just a great book and series in general. My only criticism is that I now have to wait for bk3...let's get a move on Mr. Underwood!

I have not been a fan of Marcus Jahn's narrating style and have stated that in a few posts. That is no longer the case. He as settled into a smooth style that's easy to listen to and has made this book sooo much better that the first. So, hats off to you Marcus for being a true professional. If he can change then I can man-up and acknowledge it, giving praise instead of a negative critique. Sarah and Marcus have both made this a great listen.

Better than the first!

Right up front I'll say that I recommend this series to anybody reading this review. Next a little context for my review which is that I try to split up my review into categories. The author in the story that he's telling, the narration team and their performance, and lastly my personal preferences. I try and take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every story makes it to “The End” and the first of anything tend to be shaky endeavors. When it comes to a sequel my expectations are that it should be everything that made the first book good enough for me to continue reading and then some. This, the second book, met those expectations. I did not have to take it easy on the first book as the writing was solid. That is no doubt due to the authors preparations which included a peer review from a fellow author by the name of Stoham Baginbott. The author even suggests checking out his work as well. This, now the second book, is every bit as good and then some. Our hero is still struggling with fighting fire with fire while trying to make it his own, sort of speak. He is vigilant to not allow the power to corrupt him. An additional lady is added towards the end of the book for which I doubt anybody who's reading it would be surprised. And there's something of a game plan as to how they're going to fight back. You learn more about the aliens who are controlling this simulation. Now this is a dual narration book assuming that you haven't listen to the first one. The narrators work for a company called Actors Everywhere and I have had the opportunity to listen to a substantial amount of audio books performed by their employees. This team appears to me to be among their newer teams. Sarah Goldstein did a fantastic job on the first book and did not disappoint here either. Marcus Jahn on the other hand had some rough spots. I recall at the time of the last review that I had mentioned that his character performances were hit or miss and that I could not tell whether or not it was him attempting to give himself room to grow the characters in the future or if it was just a new narrator suffering from inexperience. Regardless of what it may have been, the performance has been refined here in the second book. My major concern was for the main character and that has been improved by leaps and bounds. If there was one rough spot that still needs a little sanding, I would say that it is the narrator’s choice of voice for the character called the controller. Fortunately, that character is not prominent in the second book and was easy to get the information from the scenes while overlooking the roughness. Finally for my personal preference I am usually not a fan of books where the story is taking place in the digital space. To me they tend to feel as though nothing really matters. This series however I have enjoyed greatly, and it feels like the stakes are real. There's a weight to the story. I'm extremely interested in what happens next. The next book titled Fortress is already up for pre-order on Amazon with a release date set for September 15th, 2022. One last thing, to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us the audible listeners I just want to say thank you very much, I have enjoyed my time, and well done all around.

Well worth your time and treasure
