Gage was a directionless college dropout, convinced he was destined for a life of mediocrity. He wasn't special. He wasn't a hero. But when a foolish birthday dare sends him tumbling through a shimmering, otherworldly mist, he's violently ripped from his mundane life on Earth and thrust into the magical world of Aethelgard.
This isn't the portal fantasy adventure of his dreams.
He lands in the Caelum Arcanum, a brutal and cutthroat magic academy where a rigid hierarchy separates the privileged from the powerless. As Gage struggles to survive the deadly curriculum, he discovers that the academy’s glittering façade hides a dark secret. Power in this world has a terrible price, and a sinister force lurks beneath the surface, preying on the weak.
With his only friend, Sakura, in danger, and a cynical mentor who sees him as nothing more than an anomaly, Gage is utterly alone. To survive, he must unravel the truth behind the academy’s power and master an unorthodox magic he doesn't understand.
Can an average guy from Earth become strong enough to protect his friends and expose a conspiracy that could get him killed? Or will the academy's shadows consume him first?
Perfect for fans of Will Wight's Cradle, Andrew Rowe's Arcane Ascension, and epic fantasy sagas with intricate magic systems and compelling character progression.

I'm going to start with a few cons that I noticed right off the bat....
first is the main character and the boo-hoo story about how lame his life is it actually feels like the writer is picking on their character and how useless they are even before they even start their journey.... then he gets thrown into this new magical world .. And instead of acting even remotely normal just takes it at face value and is like well my life sucks... :-( then we start actually getting into the world itself where he starts to learn and go to classes And it honestly feels like this guy has no ambition no motivation and no helpful knowledge of life whatsoever supposably he's a deadbeat from Earth... but this guy doesn't even know basic transmigration stories or video game lore or anything that a deadbeat from Earth would know... I mean great example he has his first class to learn about ethier And it just goes on to show how little he actually knows and it says he can't keep up and he can't pay attention because he doesn't know basic terms like ley lines but even I'm able to keep up with half the teaching content so far... anybody who has listened or read a progression fantasy should come to this conclusion Heck even watching Lord of the rings would help you out 😒... but the MC is so week in every conceivable fashion in the story goes to great lengths to show you And it slaps him across the face every chance it gets in every lesson he has teachers asking questions to put him on the spot to make him look like the ignoramus they say he is teachers showing how incompetent he is or how much lack of control he has... I mean we're talking about a guy who they know came from a world that has no magic ether or any knowledge thereof it's like criticizing a caveman... because he can't use a smartphone especially because they go as far as to say it takes years to even become competent enough to use the abilities he supposedly should know 🫤 honestly it just makes this society look More incompetent than anything else....
then the story goes on to explain how utterly alone he is he can't explain he can't talk about his past blah blah even though the story explicitly says and teaches that the people know he's from a world that doesn't have ether but he comes from another world so why can't he talk about it.... it doesn't even explain or hint at the explanation it just says boo boo boo... I'm going to be honest if it doesn't get much better I'm going to write this a one star and give up thankfully it's free...
finally after about an hour and a half in.. you get your first decent positive good feeling outcome One of the nicest characters and basically his only friend is getting picked on by an advanced Scion pretty much bully... and the main character flares up and actually shows some real backbone and power imagine looking down at your hand then stare at the face of Malfoy.... And with the big meaty slap striking him across the face And that's what you get with the energy altercation from the main character it honestly feels so satisfying for once especially because of how the story makes you feel and the character...
after this the story starts to really pick up a little you start to get the main character as he discovers his own abilities and how he's different from everyone else And he finally shows some backbone and dedicates himself to actually succeeding it's definitely started to become a four-star series but definitely you have to get past the first 2 hours... after that it really starts to feel like the main characters actually special
I also don't really enjoy too much the plot as a whole The entire premise that there's the big bad siphoning off students this entire time and it goes all the way to the top... it just feels too large considering the main character doesn't even have any real way to defend himself if it were like in the second or third novel then that probably would work out also in one part of the story The Big bad specifically sends them down there knowing full well that they're going to discover the evidence and then just lets them go and do research... seems kind of weird that your enemy would allow you to find out about their plans and make contingency plans against them it doesn't matter how methodical you think you are allowing people time to plot against you knowing full well that you know that they know doesn't seem like the smart move...
