The story is told by Waryata the adopted daughter of Gabe and Ruthie Harrison. She is the daughter of Gabe's Apache friend, Wadiskay. Having the premonition of his death, he asked Gabe to take Waryata and raise her as his own. It's a big change to go to a ranch after living in an Apache village. She is soon loved by the family including Gabe's daughter Libby. In the home also lives Ben, Gabe's life-long partner, and Hank, Ruthie's brother and Janie, a young widow, who Gabe had rescued a short time before. Having a family member train in the skills of an Apache proved to be very valuable to the family they learn when the girls take a trip. As the trip turns bad, there are dangers from many sources. Bandits, accidents, ambushes, and being hunted by killers. Of course, anytime Gabe and Ben are around you can count on adventure and action. Waryata's story will keep you interested to the very end.
