Cassie Bevans has decided that she is ready to take on the administration of a rural Oklahoma school district. The trip to be interviewed for the position is a long drive from the Chicago suburbs.

Cassie not only hopes to bring a remote school into modern times. She also assumes the people there are also in need of the modernization she can offer.

When she pulls off the side of a road to walk and relax in advance of her interview and enjoy the wildflowers, she does not realize she has blocked the only way that a farmer can bring his machinery out of the vast wheat field.

And when she returns to her car, she finds a man waiting at her car concerned that she has encountered a mechanical or medical problem, but her response is anything but cordial or apologetic. The inconvenienced man catches her eye, but also begins to run out of patience with her attitude.

Cassie is appalled when it is suggested that she would benefit from a literal visit the actual woodshed behind the man's house in view just down the road. In a huff, Cassie slides into her car and speeds away, more convinced now that she needs to help bring sophistication to these people.

But when she is introduced to the members of the school board, she finds that things are not the way they appeared to be.

Cassie enters into a new life such as she has never known before. And through times of laughter and serious introspection, she comes to find out things about herself she never realized before.

Among them is an unexpected enjoyment of something that at first sounded to her to be absurd notion of an unsophisticated man, but introduces her to unanticipated pleasures .
