Gifts of Men — He Gave Some

The phrase is short, but it carries profound theological weight:
He gave some.

Not all are apostles. Not all are prophets. Not all are evangelists. Not all are pastors and teachers.
The diversity is intentional. The limitation is purposeful. The design is divine.

This book explores the nature, function, and ongoing work of what Scripture calls the equipping gifts — what we have referred to as the Doma gifts.

Three distinctions form the framework of this study:
  1. The Doma Gift — the person given by Messiah.
  2. The Ministry Function — the grace that flows from that person.
  3. The Ongoing Work — the lasting fruit produced in the Body.
Without these distinctions, confusion reigns.

We have seen apostolic grace mistaken for domination. Prophetic grace mistaken for spectacle. Evangelistic grace mistaken for marketing. Pastoral grace mistaken for dependency. Teaching grace mistaken for intellectualism.
But when properly understood, these gifts are neither hierarchical nor competitive. They are complementary.

Their purpose is singular:

“…for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12 LSB)

The fivefold does not replace the saints. It prepares them.
The gifts are not the workforce. They are the equippers.
The ultimate aim is not gifted leaders. It is a mature Body.
This book will unfold:
  • The unique grace carried within each Doma gift.
  • The function that grace performs within the Ekklesia.
  • The integrated harmony of the five.
  • The enduring work of true apostolic ministry.
At its heart, this is not a book about ministry titles.

It is a book about maturity.

It is about the wisdom of the ascended Messiah in providing what His Body needs until it reflects His fullness.
He gave some.

And through them, He is still forming a people who grow up into Him who is the Head, even Messiah.

The journey ahead is not about exalting gifts. It is about understanding them — so that the Ekklesia may become what it was always intended to be.
