Writer Vernor Vinge and actor Steve Buscemi on this archive edition of Fresh Air. The author of 16 books of science fiction, Vernor Vinge gained a cult following for his early role in writing about cyber-culture and the Internet. His new book, Across Realtime, came out earlier this year. He talks about the difficulty of writing science fiction when technology outdates itself as rapidly as it does. Vinge teaches computer science at San Diego State. Actor Steve Buscemi directed and produced his newest movie, Animal Factory, a prison drama starring Willem Dafoe and Edward Furlong. He made his directorial debut with Tree's Lounge in 1996. He's acted in more than 60 movies in the past 20 years, winning praise for roles in cult favorites like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Fargo.
