Hear writer and director Mike White, film critic David Edelstein, TV critic David Bianculli, and jazz drummer Max Roach, on this edition of Fresh Air.
Mike White's films include Nacho Libre, The School of Rock, Orange County, and Chuck & Buck. He also directed three episodes of the critically acclaimed TV show, Freaks & Geeks. White's newest film, Year of the Dog, stars Molly Shannon and Peter Sarsgaard. It's coming out on DVD August 28, 2007.
Next, David Edelstein reviews Superbad, starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera.
Then, David Bianculli reviews High School Musical 2, starring Zac Efron and premiering on the Disney Channel tonight, Friday August 17 2007, with repeat showings.
Finally, Max Roach, who died Wednesday at age 83. Roach was considered the greatest drummer of all time by his peers. He played with Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, and Miles Davis. "Max was one of the founders and original members of the A-Team of bebop," said musician Quincy Jones. "Outside of losing a giant and an innovator, I've lost a great, great friend.
