Resumen del Editor

From the fiery intellectual provocateur - and one of our most fearless advocates of gender equality - a brilliant, urgent essay collection that both celebrates modern feminism and challenges us to build an alliance of strong women and strong men.

Ever since the release of her seminal first book, Sexual Personae, Camille Paglia has remained one of feminism's most outspoken, independent, and searingly intelligent voices. Now, for the first time, her best essays on the subject are gathered together in one concise volume. Whether she's calling for equal opportunity for American women (years before the founding of the National Organization for Women), championing a more discerning standard of beauty that goes beyond plastic surgery's quest for eternal youth, lauding the liberating force of rock and roll, or demanding free and unfettered speech on university campuses and beyond, Paglia can always be counted on to get to the heart of matters large and small. At once illuminating, witty, and inspiring, these essays are essential listening that affirm the power of men and women and what we can accomplish together.

Important Critique of FeminismToday

Not everyone is going to like Paglia and if you do decide you like her then most likely you are not going to agree with her on all topics. However she is a very important voice in Feminism today. There is a reason why most young women don't want to identify as feminist. To leave Feminism uncriticized is to not do feminists any favors. We need open minded, intelligent, thought provoking voices, ideally from women offering alternative points of view. I appreciate her ideas of "equal opportunity feminist", a feminism that works for men and women for the improvement of general society. I appreciate her being pro-male and giving men their due in society.
Where I think she falls down in this book is her over use of high academic terms that people like myself have no foundation of reference. Her over use of Apollonian, Rousseau, and in my mind obscure Hollywood references. For me it takes away from her message.

Bravo Camille!

What made the experience of listening to Free Women, Free Men the most enjoyable?

Listening to the powerful words of Camille, through her own powerful voice.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The first chapter

What does Camille Paglia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Wit and her laconic style of speaking. For the level of intellect she possesses, she comes off as a non academic. She is also funny and her speaking tone is unlike that of an polished academic intellectual. She sounds very proletariat and everything is spoken with a strong conviction. I don't think any other narrator could have done justice to this book.

The narration alone is worth the price.

Hearing Dr. Paglia give voice to her writing breaths life and tenacity into the book- her trademark persona.

Wonderful from start to finish

The content is brave and original. So refreshing to hear from someone who has formed their own opinions and is willing to breach party lines. The authors narration was superb also.

What a treat to hear this great Feminist speak!

She is eloquent with just a touch of bawdiness on the surface. She is direct and guided by her early introduction to literature and art (including film and music). She has invited me, with my own feeble linguistic talent, to understand the definition and meaning of each word and sentence she delivers. I was informally introduced to her through her many YouTube interviews and it is awesome how much she delivers! I wish I had her in my Women Writers class for cultural pluralism class which I got a D in. Thank you Camille!!

Excellent and very enjoyable

Smart, broad and entertaining.
Made all the more enjoyable as Paglia reads with wry enthusiasm her works. Perfect.

A Collection of writings

It's a collection, not a single beginning-to-end narrative. Due to that fact, there's a fair amount of overlap - e.g. you hear of her admiration of Amelia Earhart several times.

The topics covered are very important, and Camille hours a lot of nails on the head. I love her style and passion for the topics. I feel like the audiobook gets additional content... though I'm not certain if that, it feels that way.

Excellent book except...

Both the content and the narration of “Free Women, Free Men” was excellent, except at times it was a little redundant. The book consists of articles and excerpts spanning Camille Paglia’s career and often they over lapped so tightly it would cover the same exact material. If someone is passion about the content or subject, it’s easily forgivable, though did it caused me to drop my rating by one star. The description of the pictures made me wish I had a hard copy in my hands. CP is a gem and her discourse has made the world a better place.

pretty essential for fans

I picked up SP on accident way back in the day and the first few chapters changed the way I think. I've listened to a lot of her lectures since. some of the talks in here are sections from other books she already wrote or lectures she already gave, but are relevant to the over arching theme of it. however, she narrates it in a way where she adds interesting little footnotes and anecdotes that make it personal and worth the reread.
