Resumen del Editor

Unique to this title are:

  • A historical introduction
  • An overview of Metamorphosis
  • A study of the themes present in Metamorphosis
  • A list of famous quotes from Metamorphosis

You may of course skip all of it and go straight to the main title if you do not want any spoilers and come back later to the beginning.

Franz Kafka was born in1883, the first of six children of a middle-class Ashkenazi Jewish family. He was born in Prague, the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and today the capital of the Czech Republic. He trained to be a lawyer, and while he worked in an insurance company, he was only able to write part-time.

In Metamorphosis, Gregor Samsa, a traveling salesman, wakes up in his bed one morning and realizes that he has turned into a large insect. He doesn't understand how this is possible and decides to go back to sleep and forget about what has happened. When he tries to roll over in bed, he realizes that because his body is now the shape of an insect, he can't do this. He realizes he has many new legs and feels disgusted with himself. He wonders how he is going to continue working as a traveling salesman if he looks like this.

Enjoy this timeless classic!

Pleasant listen. Enjoy overview info

This is the sixteenth book I have listened to by Audiobook Giveaways. I like the format of their audiobooks. They start each book with a summary kind of like condensed Sparks notes. They also have short chapters covering some history of the author, quotes from the book, and/or themes in the book. ——-
This is the third book I have listened to by this narrator ( Drew Kallen -Keck ) and I would listen to another. I generally speed up my listens to 1.5x but found I did not need to go quite that high with this book. He uses accents for the characters different from the narrative. His character voices for the females are just as good as the males. I never got lost in the narration enough to forget I was being read to, but this is likely in part to the story itself. ——-

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and voluntarily left this unbiased review.

An Introduction to Kafka's Very Strange World

With all the years I've studied literature, I don't know how I missed this story, but when I saw Metamorphosis was available as an audiobook I knew it was time to remedy that situation. I can't believe I waited so long.
This is one of the strangest stories I've ever read but it is absolutely mesmerizing. It tells the story of a man, a son and brother, who wakes up on an ordinary morning, completely transformed and follows the disastrous effects on the man and his family as the scope of his metamorphosis becomes clear.
Kafka looks at family dynamics, self-image and social mores with an eye that is both disturbing and remarkably candid. This is a story that everyone should read (or listen to).

Interesting story

I've never read a story quite like this one. I found it interesting and disturbing at the same time. The narrator did a good job of reading the book, with the exception of a few times when words were repeated. I definitely think this is a good book to listen to, if only to expand one's one's mind.
