There are several reasons people leave the faith, including arrogance, ignorance, a love of the world, and so on. But the remedy for all of these can be found in the Book of Allah and in the Prophetic traditions of Muhammad (the choicest blessings and peace be upon him). This is the basis of this treatise.

The book before the noble listener is an attempt to direct people to the sound creed of Islam, the fortification against the slings and arrows of disbelief and apostasy.

The cautionary tale of Abdullah al-Qasimi. Here was a man once compared to Ibn Taymiyyah — a scholar who wrote one of the greatest defenses of the Salafi creed — and he ended up writing books attacking Islam after becoming infatuated with philosophy and keeping company with people of desires. That story alone is worth the price of the book. It shook me. If someone of his caliber could fall, what about the rest of us? May Allah protect us.

This book hit home. Abu Hassan Malik al-Akhdar laid out eight causes of apostasy with clear evidence from the Quran, the Sunnah, and the statements of the scholars — not opinions, not emotions, just proof. Every cause he identified is something you can see playing out in real time on social media, in our communities, and sometimes in our own households.

What I appreciated most is that the book is not just a warning — it’s a shield. It gives you the tools to protect your heart. The section on opening your ears to the doubts of disbelievers is especially relevant right now with ex-Muslim content all over YouTube and TikTok. Ibn Sirin, one of the greatest scholars of the Tabi’in, refused to even sit with an innovator because he feared one word could change his heart forever. If he feared for himself, what about us?

The book also balances the severity of apostasy with the mercy of Allah. The story of the Ansari man who left Islam, regretted it, and asked if there was repentance — and Allah revealed verses accepting his return — that gives hope to anyone who is struggling.

Whether you’re a practicing Muslim, a new Muslim, or someone going through doubts, this book is for you. It’s short, grounded in authentic sources, and straight to the point. I plan to use it as a reference for an upcoming podcast discussion and recommend it to anyone serious about protecting their faith.

May Allah reward the author and make this book a means of guidance. Ameen.
