Acerca de esta escucha
Suspenseful military space fleet adventure and hard science fiction come together in this novel of future space colonization in the Alpha Centauri star system.
With the seizure of an advanced freighter and its strategic cargo, James Van Wert is assigned to a combat vessel that possesses a groundbreaking new technology which the Fleet hopes will stop the insurgency. But James must first battle command infighting and the technological challenges of getting an untried ship ready for action, while the freighter captives travel to the heart of the enemy cabal to fight for their very lives.

A hidden gem, solid SciFi, great story
Truly good SciFi, a levelheaded story (not full of magic) that starts gradually, not with a bang, but with development, we get to know the characters and the situation. The space borne Navy style military protocol is woven in nicely, as are the very human characters. Soon enough though, interesting things happen and the adventure starts. What's not to love about that! This concise (not full of fluff and relatively short) book brings to mind some Star Trek episodes and some current situations too, where very real conflict exists and a maybe a bad government agent or two is secretly involved.
The narration is superb and moves along nicely. I typically listen to other audible books at 1.2x or 1.25x as so often the narration is slow. Not here. This book moves along quickly and I found that if I am not paying attention or if something distracted me, I might miss something and I would have to rewind. I found that 1x speed is perfect, that's a pleasant surprise.
Even though the book is relatively short, there is a lot packed into the story and I probably should listen to it a second time. I can't wait to listen to the next book. As I mentioned above, this is a hidden gem.
