Fun adventures

Fun dialogue, good action, interesting format. The narrator does great with the different accents. Reminded me of the movie Snatch.

A unique storyline with a talented narrator

When I started Follow the Money, I expected it to be different. That promise of something totally unexpected plus a new narrator is precisely what prompted me to listen to this audiobook. I got a little of both sides of the coin- some great moments and others that didn’t work for me.

The idea behind Follow the Money is incredibly unique, tracking the path of a paper bill and giving a brief glimpse into the varied lives of the people who come into contact with the money. Unfortunately, despite the original storylines and variety of characters, I struggled to stay invested in the stories. Quite a few of the characters and stories were tinged with racial, misogynistic, and vulgar slurs. While I’m not a shrinking violet by any stretch of the imagination, this approach ended up dissuading me from listening at times. Additionally, the second part of the story took a sudden and odd turn giving two alternate endings based on who won the 2016 US presidential election. Perhaps if I had read this as the individual stories the book was originally released as, the approach would have made more sense. Instead, it simply didn’t fit with the rest of the book’s style and left me a bit nonplussed.

That said, while Follow the Money was not my cup of tea in many ways, I liked the way the plot was interconnected and the character paths overlapped a few times, allowing readers to get a bit of follow up on the previous owners of the note/bill. I also really enjoyed the narrator. His cadence and accent were pleasing to the ear and made it easy to follow along the multiple different characters readers meet throughout Follow the Money. I’ve seen many reviewers mention his narration of the string of stories that take place in the US, and while the narrator’s American pronunciations and accents weren’t quite accurate, it was never to a degree that derailed my enjoyment. In the end, Follow the Money was a unique story that will certainly tick many readers’ boxes, even if it wasn’t completely for me. If you are considering this book, I definitely would encourage you to look into the audiobook because the narration is worth it.

The narrator did an excellent job with the story

Follow the Money: A Tale of Tales
By: David Fuentes Narrated by: Matthew Kerslake

This is written from the point of view of a bill, or note. We are quite literally following the money while reading this book. The writing is smooth and easy to follow. The stories are definitely all unique. I thought this story was a fun and quick listen.
I listened to the audio edition of this book and felt the narrator did an excellent job with the story.
However, I feel I need to let potential readers know this book is not meant to be listened to by non-adults. There are certain elements in the journey that are NOT considered to be “family friendly” and language that may be considered offensive is used quite frequently throughout the book.
Having said that, I still thought t to be entertaining; with all the feels included. One minute I felt empathy towards a character, only to follow with laughing at the next character. It was quite the roller coaster of emotions. Overall, I rate it with 4 stars.

review

Overall I enjoyed the book. I have always wondered where a bill has been before reaching my hands and this book had interesting interactions between a $20 bill and the people who came into contact with it. I thought part 1 was well written and the best. The other 2 parts were good, but the endings were very bizarre and not really believable. Not sure where the author was going with that. The only other issue I had was with the way the Americans spoke. There were words used that Americans don't generallys use, like "cheers" and "mate".

3 stars = good stuff and meh stuff

Recieved this audio book for free in return for an honest review. Mild spoilers.

I think it's a unique and interesting take on how to tell a story, one I was personally pretty intrigued by as I grew up scrawling "wheresgeorge.com" on my $1 bills in order to track them across the US.

I found the stories of the British pound note to be way more interesting than the American dollar ones. They seemed more in depth and authentic. The American ones end in a little hyperbole that I didn't feel quite fit the rest of the tone of the book, but I can't say it wasn't warranted considering the topic at hand.

Long strings of dialogue made it hard to tell who was talking when, which made it hard to follow sometimes.

Most of the characters were pretty interesting, save for every single female, who except for maybe 2, were all simply sexy cookie cutter bombshells used only for plot devices in sex, mistreatment, and violence (which happens in real life yes, but I prefer some variety), and I found it to be eyeroll inducing (especially a scene with a dog being a "lucky boy") and uninspired after a while, along with being described rather repetitively.

Lots of adult themes and violence, it should probably come with a heads up of some kind for that. Don't mind it at all, just didn't expect it.

I'd recommend this if someone is looking for a truly unique take on storytelling, with a heavy disclaimer on the adult themes and how boring the chicks are.

Great money for the audio money

This is an audio that will teach you things about life and the financial state of a country. It will take you around and let you see every step of a bank note . From the first time a person touches the bank note till it goes around a few times. David Fuller opens your eyes and makes you realize what we humans take for granted

Mathew was a good narrator . His voice was strong steady and clear

Innovative story line

This book was so unique and original. Each short story is connected to the previous story by a 20-pound note.
The narrator did a fabulous job with all the different accents and the various situations depicted.
The first book for this listener, by both the narrator and the author. But not my last. Time well spent.
