I've always known my partner has a dark side, but I've just discovered he's pure evil.
I’ve fully committed to being a Keeper of the Bounds between the fae and human realms, but I have to admit, I’m struggling to trust my partner, Lucas. We really didn’t have the best start, not to mention he’s so secretive, and it doesn’t help that I’m unnerved by the attraction between us.
On top of that, the bounds are splitting, the cracks of dark oblivion growing by the day. We have to put a stop to their expansion right now, because the consequences would mean the end of, well… everything.
Thinking his family may be involved, Lucas heads to Grimmere, his fae homeland, to find out what’s going on. Does he want my help? Nope. I have strict instructions to stay home and look after things here, which only adds to my general distrust.
But when a reliable source informs me that Lucas’s life is in perilous danger, I have no choice but to head to Grimmere. What I find there leaves me reeling. I now know who and what my partner is, and it’s blacker than sin.
With flawed characters and strong emotional arcs, the Folkloric series weaves a beguiling hidden fae world with epic stakes and all the feels. The chosen one and the perfect hero were so traumatised by the goblins, they upped and left for another book.

I really can’t describe how perfectly Grant paints the backdrop and fills it with such rich and colorful characters. The story is engaging, the tensions thick, and the danger sharp. Trust is a huge issue, coming to a head and setting up the next book perfectly. At the same time, the ending is satisfying and a great payoff.
As always with a great book, you can’t stop (in my case) listening, dying to know how it will end, all while dreading it being over.
Another wonderful installment, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next audiobook!!

In book one we were introduced to Camille and Lucas and an interesting idea that Folklore and Real Life could both be real and co-exist in a small area of France. Camille already had a lot on her plate with her sick Grandfather, keeping their farm running, her job in the cafe and her folklore research without Lucas adding folklore being real to the mix.
In book two Camille and Lucas had a summer adventure with the project and realised the realities and difficulties that come from trying to adapt to blending reality and fae while learning to trust someone.
In this third story, we meet Lucas's family and the series storyline plays a secondary role to the character development and while I am fine with that, it made the start of this book really confusing. We start off book three with Camille talking about a man, and the tone makes it seem like we have already been introduced to this person. I assumed my attention had drifted and restarted the audiobook only to be more confused. So I went back to re-read the end of book two and realised that nope this person has never been mentioned. Luckily I was willing to go along for the ride and hope it would be explained.
Camille is starting to frustrate me a little because we never seem to get a clear picture of her. In book one she was willing to risk everything for family. In book two she was consumed with the project. In book three she has trust issues and shows that she is much more concerned about her own feelings and emotions than about the Fae, her family or her friends. Grampi has been almost forgotten about in this one so has Camille's job in the cafe and her research project. She is annoying me to be honest but I am still willing to believe she can be redeemed in the two remaining books in the series.
The ironic part is that the author has done a much better job of humanizing the non human character in Lucas. After meeting Lucas's family we can understand his history and motivations a bit better. While Camille seems to prefer to always think the worst of Lucas, he demonstrates that he is actually one of the most trustworthy characters in the series. Lucas's brother is awful and I liked that Camille was able to use her skills to get a measure of revenge for his actions.
Side characters, I quite like Gabe but I am not sure the addition of Nora really lends much. I would like to see more of the people who have inspired Lucas's loyalty like Wortle. I kind of missed the Men of Bedeilhac in this one, they are such a fun part of who Lucas is.
I am hoping that the changes that happened at the end of this book will fix Camille's issues going forward. I will be adding book four to my to be read list as soon as the audiobook is available.

“Folkloric Ruse” is yet another phenomenal continuation to the world of Folkloric, and is an attention-grabbing third volume sweeping the reader through this new world and continuing strongly, delving further into the epic series. The prose is on point, the characters, endearing, and the plot... thickening! Savoureux! “Folkloric Ruse” is an enjoyable and entertaining read, with great world-building, and great characters, and is an honest-to-goodness MUST READ!
Camille is a folklorist, first, last, always. But since being introduced into the realm beyond the Bounds, she’s even more enamored with the Fae and everything they bring to the world. Camille has found some recognition for her knowledge and research in folklore, but now she has bigger croissants to bake! Whiles she still lives on Grampi’s farm, helping out with the Supergoats, she still works in her best friend Alice’s mom’s pâtisserie, and she’s still trying to figure out how she feels about, and what to do with the town’s doctor, Lucas, her job as a Keeper of the Bounds with Lucas has come to the forefront of her attention.
The Bounds are in worse shape than ever, and Lucas has gone to visit his family in Grimmere. No big deal right? Just the power center for his family of Dracs. No sweat! But when Mushum the goblin tells Camille that Lucas is in mortal danger, it’s time for her to get to know her (potential) Drac-in-laws, whether it kills her or not!

This story gets better and better with each book. The story and characters are so unique and wonderfully written that you just want to devour each story. The tension between Lucas and Camille is sparking into a flame and I can’t wait to see what happens when it finally burns. This series is a must read!
The narrator is perfect in this role. Her voice acting is always above par and she pulls you into the story every time.
What a ruse!
