. FLOODS ON DRY GROUND - REVIVAL IN THE CONGO

This story takes place in Imbai, N.E. Congo in the Ituri forest. This mission station was established by C.T. Studd and Alfred Buxton in 1920. In 1922 it saw an awakening of hearts to the work of the Holy Spirit. The station was established and went on for some years. Jack and Lily Roberts, siblings, arrived in 1931 and worked diligently in establishing and enlarging the station. Five years later the spiritual life of the center began to wane, sin became hidden and accepted, fellowship among believers weakened and then the Belgian government gave orders to have the foreign missionaries leave. A gloom fell upon the whole area because of their dependance on the missionaries to keep things going. Jack, Lily and Ivy saw this as an opportunity to seek God’s face for a revival so that when they left, the native believers could assume leadership and enlarge the work.

They began to pray in a way that established these events as a template for revival that could occur anywhere in the world. The Spirit came in a mighty outpouring as a result of their prayers. It came first as a refiners fire, cleansing, renewing and refreshing those in the station and then as a spreading wildfire to areas far and wide. These were not prayers like checking off a grocery list. Rather they were entering in to the intercessions of Jesus. Costly prayers, ones which held onto the horns of the altar and would not let go. The Holy Spirit brought floods upon the dry ground, what will He do if you pray?
