This book is history reimagined, WWII Europe written as a steampunk, supernatural fantasy novel. There are Warehouse 13 and Raiders of the Lost Arc occult like artifacts. These are an integral component of each book so far. They are within a moral universe in which the heroes espouse a Judeo-Christian frame of reference. Loving your neighbor and mercy are held as more important than power.

The main conflict is between those who want ultimate control over others and the future and those who want to help others snd live freely. Yes, it’s been done before, a lot. That said, the artifacts are very different than others I have read about and seen. The story is filled with historical references from the ancient times as well as WWII.

I generally like stories with these elements. However, I had difficulty liking this book. I enjoyed the first book in this series a little better. Part of the problem for me is that a great deal of this book is told by the narrator who tells what happened rather than showing dramatized scenes with characters acting and dialoguing. The problem for me is one of style not content. The book picked up a little towards the end. Romance was virtually ignored until the end. The love interests spent precious few moments interacting with each other throughout 75% of the book.

I want to finish the series but found this book very slow. The narrator has a pleasant voice but did not add anything to the interpretation for me.
