After a ten-year leave, Kathryn Jacobs has been invited back to the N.T.S.B to investigate a series of unexplained airline crashes. But her husband, Captain Bill Jacobs, has his concerns. While her twin daughters are off at camp, and Bill is actively campaigning for the Pilot Union Presidency, Kathryn secretly begins her investigation. What she learns will shock the nation.

Flight For Control is a thriller that reads like a mystery. But to Kathryn, there is no mystery on the condition of the airline industry—it’s broken. Planes are crashing. Pensions are lost. Pilots are financially and emotionally bankrupt due to fatigue, furloughs, and loss of seniority. It’s time that someone takes control before it’s too late—unless it already is. All crashes in this book happened in the manner they actually did, the why was changed.

This is book one in the series with a forward that explains what has transpired in the industry. Who knew the events would come true and management could be so corrupt. But the characters carry on and the drama is more truth than fiction. Start here and be ready for the scariest flight of your life.

Your life is in your pilot’s hands. Do you know who’s flying your plane?

Flight for Control by Karlene Petitt is the kind of audiobook that will delight, scare and entertain aviation fans all over the world. Karlene Petitt uses her background as a former pilot to deliver a plot that feels both believable and entertaining. Sadly, most of the crashes in this book are actually real and they could have been prevented.

The story follows Kathryn Jacobs, who has stepped away from the airline world but who quickly finds herself pulled back as an NTSB investigator when a series of incidents raise quiet, but persistent questions. No spoilers here, but the story circles around something deeper happening inside the system, and Kathryn is one of the few willing to look closely enough to see it.

Karlene Petitt lets the tension grow gradually, giving us just enough information at the right time so we can sense that something is off. The plot is grounded and everything feels natural. This isn’t a thriller that tries to dazzle or drown us in twists. Instead, it leans on realism. The pressures pilots face, the decisions that trickle down from people far removed from the cockpit, the kind of systemic issues that are scary precisely because they feel possible.

Retired pilot and award-winning narrator Pamela Almand delivers another stellar performance with the Flight for Control audiobook. Her narration has that calm precision you want in a story shaped by aviation. She brings authenticity to every scene, delivering technical language with ease and keeping emotional moments warm and steady. Nothing is overstated. She gives Kathryn a voice that feels capable and she handles supporting characters with quiet distinction.

Her narration is smooth, letting the story breathe when it needs to and tightening the tension at the right moments. It’s a performance that enhances the entire listening experience, bringing out the strengths in Karlene Petitt’s writing without ever getting in its way.

Together, the writing and narration create a thoughtful, believable thriller that’s genuinely enjoyable to listen to. It’s well-crafted, well-performed, and absolutely worth picking up. I honestly can’t wait for the next audiobook in this exciting series.
