Violent storms, 30-ft waves, and equipment failure leave both men seasick, dehydrated, and sleep-deprived. Alone on the ocean, they are forced to examine their lives. Was the decision to undertake this challenge brave, selfish, or foolish? After 70 days, nine hours, and 11 minutes at sea, they cross the finish line, two changed men. Will either of their wives be there to greet them?

Fantastic! Woke up early and stayed up late for this book!

Usually read fiction. “Flares Up” isn’t my typical genre. However, the true story of two middle aged men rowing across the Atlantic ocean was so compelling I couldn’t stop listening! I woke up early and went to bed late to get more time with it. First book in a longtime I can say that about. Flares Up made me laugh, cry, and learn. Was touched by the story of Paul and Phil’s lives and adventure. Flares Up is so human and honest. Appreciate the author included the good, the bad, and the ugly. Made the book much more relatable and provocative. The author’s Irish accent was a delight to listen to. The book a window into the triumph of the human spirit, man’s call to adventure, and the power of human relationships. 100% worth a read.
