Out of order???

Not familiar with this author. Loved the idea and the promise of a good story. However after listening to through the 3rd chapter, I got the impression the chapters are out of order. Each started the same, almost word for word and then character never met or events I never read about were referred to. Pretty sure chapter 6 is the climax of the whole story with another 11 chapters to go. I go tired of starting over and getting lost. Probably a great read in the end but couldn’t handle the repetition and unknown facts popping up like they were in the previous chapter.
