A fantastic way to kick off a new series! I’m a big fan of modern urban fantasy when the tropes of that genre are combined with well-developed characters and/or a unique setting. And that is definitely the case here. In the first installment of his Marcus Aries series, Justin Herzog gives us a relatable protagonist in Marcus Aries, a devoted family man and martial arts instructor who also just happens to Hawaii’s guardian against evil. Oahu murder mystery that could be a tourist guide! Loved the prose! This is not your typical Kindle title. It's well written with very few, as in two, typos. I used to work for an airline and flew to Oahu every month. This could really be a tourist guide, too! Later, I did a thesis on Hawaiian religion. While the supernatural beings were not overt in my research, the gods of nature were definitely strong and omnipresent entities with modern Hawaiians. Loved the story. Loved Marcus and his family. I devoured the book in one day! -- Rusty
