Captain Ike Smith has been forced to leave his beloved Tampa, Florida, and his job as a charter boat captain to flee from cartel boss Felix Cardona. Cardona has vowed to kill Smith for his part in a large drug bust at the border. Is the Florida Keys out of the reach of vicious killer Cardona? Fortunately for Smith, he has been offered another fire investigation in the Keys of a sunken yacht and a suspected serial arsonist. Smith dodges hurricanes and dives into shark-infested waters to perform this new investigation, only to find a fire investigator’s worse nightmare . . . will it cost him the love of his life? This story had its good points; however, it lacked cohesiveness, and the characters were very simple. The main character several times missed checking his boat for problems, even though he said he'd done engine checks. An experienced boatman would not have missed them. There were two main plot lines which had characters that could have been better related. Finally, the virtual voice narration was appalling, especially since the voice consistently mispronounced words like lead (s/l leed) and led (both pronounced led with the plural of leads having the S omitted). The pacing was terrible. For example, the main female character's best friend, Mary Jo. had her name "Mary" emphasized, then a pause followed by "Jo," and the verb. The hysteria of the main female character was inconsistent with her strength. I will not be reading or listening to more in this series.
