Earth is almost uninhabitable, now what?

What made the experience of listening to Finding the Vanguard the most enjoyable?

The way John Thornton allows you to see the habitats on the Vanguard through the eyes of someone who has never experienced Earth as we know it is fantastic. This allows for descriptions of animals and experiences to be seen without our social context and thus in an entirely new light.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Seven hopes to save humanity, can they succeed?

This book is one of those great finds where the author is able to create a great stand alone story while clearly leaving the tale open for additional books. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

an interesting take on the future

I requested a copy of this book and received it in exchange for an unbiased review. I enjoy a good apocalypse as much as the next guy, this one has some interesting tech. I will say some things I felt were missing, like what actually happened to the plant, some of the ships......well you get the point. at any rate it was pretty good.

Great start to a new series

Great start to a new series, I have read "Colony ship Conestoga" series so the first few chapters were like a recap but from a different person's perspective. Once the adventurers find the Vanguard the story really begins and steps up to the plate.
I'm looking forward to listening to the next book.
Jeannette Howard does a fine job of the narration with her clear and concise voice and accents.

An interesting save humanity sci fi book

I really enjoyed this book. The narration was good, and I found the premise of Dome 17 pretty interesting and well thought out. I would have liked a little more background story on how things go to where they were.

Very enjoyable futuristic, sci-fi book!

I thought this was a really good story. It started out with three "adventurers" scouting what appeared to be one of many survival domes spread out across the earth after some type of event. As the story developed, they were in search of other survivors, but each dome they came across appeared to have been abandoned or all of the survivors had been killed with "Dome Failure" being the primary culprit as could best be determined. Eventually the folks in Dome 17 learned of their own impending doom and sent teams out into space in search of colony ships in hopes of saving their people.

I don't recall if there was any mention of a timeline relative to our time and technology today, but much of the technology talked about in the book was very advanced and even physics-defying, and was developed in very short order by very few people/resources. This is probably the only aspect of the story that didn't sit well with me.

I would really like to know more about the history and evolution of the colony ships. It's very interesting to think that humans would build something like that and build them in such a way as to create their own population sections which would all evolve in different ways over the vast amounts of time required for long distance space travel. A really interesting concept for further exploration!!!

Anyway, the story then moved on to one particular couple and follows them through their attempt to save the people of Dome 17. I really liked the part of the story that depicted an evolved rabies virus. I would definitely expect something like that and it was developed very well.

I also liked the fact that the story didn't end as most would expect after reading the majority of the book. It was refreshing to see that the expected ending doesn't always materialize.

Narration was done very well.

Fast paced, exciting space adventure

John Thornton delivers another fun and fast paced search for refuge on a colony ship. Filed with action, adventure, and heart.

frustratingly slow, over explained

Seems like it was written to optimize audible credits consumed. Much of the dialog is repeated by multiple characters. Includes annoying attempts to create suspense.
