Resumen del Editor

"Is it possible to find or create work with purpose and passion - and still earn a good living?" For years, professor Mark Albion - Harvard Business School wunderkind, entrepreneur, and Fortune 500 consultant - asked himself this question. Then, in 1988, Albion quit his job...and began a life of service to others. In Finding Work that Matters, "Dr. Mark" (as he is known to his several million devoted monthly newsletter readers) invites you to take that same leap of faith. Join the best selling author of Making a Life, Making a Living to start answering the tough but necessary questions to become a "working visionary":
  • What dreams have I abandoned in order to "make a living"?
  • What are my true skills - the ones that will bring me the most fulfillment while benefiting others?
  • How much will it actually cost to re-create my life?
  • How did others do it? What lessons do their stories hold?

Taught with intelligence, humor, and many true accounts of those who found meaningful livelihood, Finding Work that Matters is required listening for anyone ready to leave behind a job - and discover the fulfillment of making a difference in the world.

    Good Sound Advice.

Mark Albion likes to drop names. And he does so throughout the book. And that's a good thing. He gives out sound advice on assessing your strengths and weaknesses and compairing them to what you are doing and to discovering what you want to do with your life and work. Bringing up the names of successfull businessmen and women makes it interesting and also shows that doing what you want doesn't (necessarily) mean dropping out of society or turning your back on monetary success. I recommend this work.

Will make you think about what your work...

The narrator speaks well, and does show emotion when talking. Not really a new concept, but worthy of listening too. He talks very positive about going with your life passions in a career, which I agree with. However, his examples of changing work is pretty extreme career wise. Not everyone has high level degrees, and went to Harvard like he did. He really doesn't seem to bring the mid level income person into play with his many examples. But the concept is the same, and he does in fact make you reevaluate your standing at work, and life in general. A worthy book to listen to, but loses a star with me because he blows his own horn too much in this book.

    Old wine, new bottle

I have read and heard several books and audio programs over the years. The ideas presented here are sound. However, there is no original material here. Most of the one liners and stories, I had heard before. The author seems to have just rehashed some well established ideas, put his own spin on them and presented them in an appetising form. I honestly did not learn one new thing here, just a reiteration of old ideas. Try ' The Magic of Thinking Big'. Its more original and profound than this work. Also I hate ex-yuppie authors extol their own virtues about how they gave up the good life and are now dedicated to the service of mankind. I am afraid, I would not recommend this work for the price.

    No concrete examples

I was unable to find work that matters using this book. It simply tried to persuade you to "do what you love so that money would follow." He tries to convice you not to be afraid of losing what you have already worked for. I see where he wants you to go but he doens't provide the bridge from where you are to where you want to be. He perhaps made me think about my situation more but thats about it. If you are looking to find work that matters you will still be looking after reading this book.
