I spent my life trying to be someone else; until I picked up a camera and found myself.

For years, I chased approval, hid behind self-doubt, and lived according to who I thought I was supposed to be. I never planned to be a photographer, especially not in paintball but life had other plans.

Finding Me: From Imposter to Icon is the raw, unfiltered story of how I went from pretending to be someone else to becoming a two-time Photographer of the Year. It’s about the setbacks that nearly broke me, the unexpected moments that shaped me, and the lessons I learned from capturing one of the fastest, most chaotic sports in the world.

More than a memoir about paintball or photography, this is a journey of identity, resilience, and discovering what happens when you stop living for others and start living for yourself.

If you’ve ever felt like an imposter in your own life, this book will remind you—you’re closer to finding yourself than you think.

I really enjoyed this book. Finding Me is about finding your passion, your place and your people. It shows how great opportunities can come from opening yourself up, taking a leap, and putting in consistent effort.

Very relatable and well-narrated.

Inspirational

I really appreciate “Lost in the Fog” I think a lot of people in and out of paintball can relate to the sentiment! Also was pretty cool to hear Dan’s narration. Such a great story teller!

A paintball book for everyone!!!

I really enjoyed the behind the scenes look at Dan’s rapid rise in the paintball photography scene. He opened up about his past experiences and how they shaped his journey to where he is today. I truly appreciate Dan’s willingness to be open and vulnerable, especially in a sport that doesn’t typically promote that kind of mindset. It’s a quick, engaging read that’s perfect for fans of the sport or anyone looking to draw inspiration for achieving success in other areas of life.

A Must Read for Paintball Fans!

This book hit me hard. Dan Shelly really opens up about dealing with imposter syndrome, losing his mom, and trying to hold it all together while his first book was just weeks away from being released. You can feel every emotion he went through.

The part that got me the most was when he talks about crying at his first event it was raw and real. It shows how much he poured into his journey and how human he is behind the “icon” title.

It’s not just a story about success, it’s about pushing through grief, self-doubt, and still finding your purpose. Definitely one of those books that makes you stop and think about your own life and what you’re capable of.

Listened to it again and again
