Behind the barricade in the entrance hall of Hornet's ranch, the remaining defenders — now numbering just nine — shake hands and say their last goodbyes. As they look into each other's faces, they see tired, haggard features but no signs of regret. Hornet implores his fiancée to retreat to one of the upper rooms and hide there, but Simona, smiling, only looks back with silent adoration. Whether in life or death, by his side is where she wishes to be.

Outside, the wolfish, triumphant howls of the invaders, led by their fanatical leader, signal that they are about to charge. With the door now lying shattered from the relentless pounding of their battering ram, the way to red slaughter, plunder and the torching of the ranch is before them.

The defenders, standing shoulder to shoulder, reload their weapons and ready themselves for this, their final stand.
