Resumen del Editor

Legendary genre editor Ellen Datlow brings together 18 dark and terrifying original stories inspired by cinema and television.

From the secret reels of a notoriously cursed cinematic masterpiece to the debauched livestreams of modern movie junkies who will do anything for clicks, Final Cuts brings together new and terrifying stories inspired by the many screens we can't peel our eyes away from. Inspired by the rich golden age of the film and television industries as well as the new media present, this new anthology reveals what evils hide behind the scenes and between the frames of our favorite medium. With original stories from a diverse list of some of the best-known names in horror, Final Cuts will haunt you long after the credits roll.

Not Poor, Not Rich

Mostly just middling. There were scary parts in most stories, but they often fell flat for me by the end.

Ms. Hvam's narration was pretty good, although I always knew she was there, reading. I was a bit annoyed by her occasional mispronunciations. Would a set of stories about film not want the correct pronunciation of Peter Lorre's name? Is the word "chemise" so exotic that Ms. Hvam has never heard it? It wasn't constant, but hearing clinkers pulls me out of a story immediately.

Final verdict: I don't return books for trivial reasons, and certainly not because they didn't appeal to me 100%. I'll keep this one around to listen to again down the road, and maybe I'll listen better.

Ellen Datlow knocks it out of the park (again)

As always Ellen Datlow delivers with a well-curated & edited collection of short stories that are all told through a specific thematic narrative lens (punintended). In this collection there are the obvious approaches you’d expect some authors to take when solicited for writing a story that (in some way) relates to the filmmaking process, (and by filmmaking that extends to all aspects: acting, screenwriting, and in one of my favorite stories featured we follow a documentary crew conducting a series of interviews w/ a long-lost scream queen whose debut performance in a 70’s B-movie became an instant icon for Horror fans everywhere yet right after the movie hit theaters she’d already gone into reclusive hiding — leaving several fans & filmmakers alike to speculate for decades about what potential explanations would account for a young, beautiful, and a genuinely gifted actor
