Acerca de esta escucha

Society is conditioned to think of murderers and predators as men, but in this fascinating book, Peter Vronsky exposes and investigates the phenomenon of women who kill - and the political, economic, social, and sexual implications. From history's earliest recorded cases of homicidal females to Irma Grese, the Nazi Beast of Belsen, from Britain's notorious child-slayer Myra Hindley to "Honeymoon Killer" Martha Beck, from the sensational murder-spree of Aileen Wournos, to cult killers, homicidal missionaries, and the sexy femme fatale, Vronsky challenges the ordinary standards of good and evil and defies the accepted perceptions of gender role and identity.

I knew about some of these women, and this book fleshed them out a little. It was easy to listen to, but it did not really draw any conclusions.

This book filled in a few gaps

When I started reading this book, I was hoping I would read about women I didn’t know about. No such luck. Evan if you get your true crime from TV or podcast. You will be familiar with these woman. Only a novice to true crime will be informed by this book.

Nothing new here.

Feeling more Thesis than True Crime, this research is actually quite interesting. Some parts felt like obnoxious MeToo, but that ends up being the point the author tries to make... demonstrating the double-standards. I almost stopped listening to the early nonsense, until logically exposed for what it is

Interesting compilation

Peter Vronsky never disappoints. This book was well researched and written, and the narration is excellent. I never know what to say when I review a book because I don't want to spoil anything, so I will just say that this audio book is a great addition to the audio library of true crime fans.

Worth it at twice the price

Having read another book by the author that I found well researched and insightful, I was not prepared for the bias and personal attacks found in this one. As other reviewers have noted, the descriptions of some of the subjects were extremely distasteful and, importantly, not at all relevant.

surprised

Lots of info on each criminal, some well known and others not. I found it very interesting and I was pleasantly surprised that it was much more the usual basic info that we hear on every other true crime show or book.

Extremely well researched

The book is not sexist, misogynistic or any other ist/ism. I wonder what the feminists would say if the author was a women. Some will view this as an attempt by the patriarchy or whatever they call it now days to try to control or put down women.

In society today we see women as nurturing and incapable of evil. Which the author mentions. This book shows that violence is not limited to any gender. Aleksandr Solzhensitsyn put it best in his book the Gulag Archipelago, "the line between good and evil runs through the center of every human heart".

One review accuses the author of sexism because he says obesity makes women kill. This is false. The author says that some 90% of female serial killers where obese in their childhood or had acne in their teens. The only deduction he makes from this is it could have attributed to social isolation.

He goes on to reference a lot of stats. I don't know where he got them or how accurate they are.

The rest is some investigative research on the background of a dozen or so women and how they came to be serial killers.

Informative & Well Researched

It’s very shocking to see how much females get away with in our society? True Equality means holding everyone accountable the same-no exceptions.
The author & reader does a great job!

What a great book! Everyone should listen to this!
