I Actually Got Some Good Sleep
So, this is an unfamiliar kind of thing for me. My Mom does positive affirmations and she has urged me to also, but I was too busy knowing everything already to listen to her. But now I’m in therapy because the stress and anxiety are overwhelming and after a long time and a lot of work I finally figured out that I don’t sleep at night because I’m afraid. I don’t feel safe falling asleep (old trauma. I could decide not to think about it but I couldn’t keep it from messing me up.). Well, it’s another three weeks until the next therapy session. I had to find some way to get some sleep because once I figured out why I didn’t ever go to sleep on time, I pretty much quit sleeping altogether while it’s dark outside.
So I did a bunch of searches on ‘sleep’ and ‘safe’ and found this book. It’s weird and different and I felt goofy but I’d much rather be goofy sleeping than non-goofy awake. I suspect I won’t feel goofy for much longer because I AM less afraid already.
In therapy I learned about ‘fixed mindset’ and ‘growth mindset’. I have a growth mindset of course, because that’s the good sounding one to have! Except…I don’t. I have a very fixed mindset. Go figure. So the thing is, once I realized that, I find myself able to nudge that mindset a little here and there. Listening to this book gives the old fixed mindset a good healthy shake. I’m going to keep listening and see what kind of growing and healing comes out of this. Thanks for reading this and keep safe and have a good day.
