Acerca de esta escucha
Oleta Greene was born on the banks of the Yockanookany River in 1912. She has never known her father, who abandoned her mother before the baby took her first breath. Her youngest son, Otis Alexnder Bell, is rebellious and resentful in a world where the color of your skin ascertains justice or injustice. He commits a violent crime that changes his life forever. Lissy Bolander is sweet and innocent, but she falls victim to a brutal rape resulting in the birth of a son, William Elijah Bolander. On a cold night in Chicago, a fragmented family comes together. Before the night ends, two bullets shatter the lives of Oleta’ family. A dark secret is concealed for twenty years. Oleta tries to keep her family together, but she faces many challenges and hardships along the way. She must confront the truth about her past and find the strength to overcome the legacy of fatherlessness that haunts her and her children.

Very good
When a child is left by their father, it starts a cycle of hurt. This book was tough to read but also very captivating.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat
I loved the story between two races coming together, never expecting what was fixing to happen, and what an explosive ending. I never dreamed that ending was coming. Does make you think about all the fatherless children, I myself raised a boy with no father. The narrator was fantastic with the different voices. I will continue reading this author and will watch for anything new. This was by far one of the most interesting yet saddest books I have read.

Disturbing and amazing all in one
This book is so pleasantly deceiving. You really want to love Miss Oleta throughout the book and then the build up happens where you see this woman has been a master manipulator and evil soul throughout this whole story. A story built on the fragmentation of our nation due to race and the sheer will to love your neighbor intersected with violence and the nuclear family being torn apart by the rise of cities.
I truly loved Lissy to death and pulled for Otis because his heart truly seemed in the right place at the beginning...me and the sheriff were both wrong about everyone and that is the beauty in this book.
