What happens when the richest nation on God's earth is driven to the outer limits of starvation?

When the grain crop failed in Kansas it seemed like an isolated incident and no one took much notice. Except Ed Hardesty. Then the blight spread to California's fruit harvest, and from there, like wildfire, throughout the nation.

Suddenly America woke up to the fact that her food supplies were almost wiped out. Her grain reserves lethally polluted. And botulism was multiplying at a horrifying rate.

I’m convinced this was written by an alien

I’m convinced this was written by an alien. People don’t speak like that. Lots of violent sexual & rape content for those sensitive. Story was over just ok.

mixed feelings

Parts of this story were very interesting and had me hooked. Unfortunately there were a few parts I kind of groaned at. The last part of the book really felt rushed, but in retrospect, that's probably the point. Any way decent over all and mostly engaging story. Narration was good.

I know it was written in the 80's, but come on.

Very cool premise, interesting first half. But, after the third rape scene I was just waiting for it to end.

The starving people

Liked the characters but didn’t much care for Ed. He was too self righteous. It shows how much we depend on the food supply and how some have more access with wealth.

Slow

I can not find any interest in the story or the narrator. waste of a good credit
