Resumen del Editor

Fifty years ago, Roland Mills belonged to a violent activist group. Now, someone is willing to kill to prevent him from publishing his memoirs. When ex-FBI agent Elliot Mills is called out to examine the charred ruins of his childhood home, he quickly identifies the fire for what it is - arson. A knee injury may have forced Elliot out of the Bureau, but it's not going to stop him from bringing the man who wants his father dead to justice. Agent Tucker Lance is still working to find the serial killer who's obsessed with Elliot and can't bear the thought of his lover putting himself in additional danger.

Straight-laced Tucker has never agreed with radical Roland on much - "opposing political viewpoints" is an understatement - but they're united on this: Elliot needs to leave the case alone. Now. Tucker would do nearly anything for the man he loves, but he won't be used to gain Elliot access to the FBI's resources. When the past comes back to play and everything both men had known to be true is questioned, their fragile relationship is left hanging in the balance. See how Tucker and Elliot's relationship began in Fair Game.

Fair Play

Would you listen to Fair Play again? Why?

I absolutely will listen again! This is a great story and myster and I think each listening will let me enjoy it more.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a well written mystery!

Have you listened to any of J. F. Harding’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first time I've listened to this narrator but felt he did a great job!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I only listen to audios in my car, but I hated to turn it off!

Any additional comments?

I've read and listed to this book and have loved it both ways. The author did a fantastic job writing the story and the narrator did a fantastic job bringing it to life!

Great story. Excellent narration.

Mystery, thriller, romance, and action novel with an interesting perspective on how the politics of the 70's are still affecting life today.

A solid listen

The narrator is great in the story telling. He does well with distinguishing his voice between characters .

The story this time around has Elliot trying to figure out who is trying to prevent his father from releasing his memoir. It also had more of Elliot and Patrick together which was nice even if they often bump heads.

My favorite Josh Lanyon series continues

Fair Play is the weakest of the trilogy - if you can call it weak - but only just, and still packs enough of a punch to, thankfully, avoid any sort of sophomore slump that tends to plague many M/M action-romance books.

Fair Play opens in pretty much the same spot where All's Fair Book 1 left off - with Elliot's father, who will leverage every bit of his son's superior crime solving skills to prove the innocence of his radical, far left wing best friend, Roland, following an apparent arson that destroyed their home.

Elliot and his boyfriend Tucker have settled into a domestic bliss of sorts, though the bliss is volatile, and on the verge of exploding at any moment. Elliot jumps into action to protect his father following an obvious murder attempt. Elliot, a former FBI agent, retired from the bureau following a near deadly injury to his knees, and Tucker, a current FBI agent determined to keep Elliot out of the investigation, are at odds when Elliot insists on putting his own life on the line. A tricky, on-again-off-again relationship with higher ups at the FBI sometimes help and sometimes hinder Elliot's own investigations.

When Elliot and Tucker are together, it's explosive. Nothing pleases Elliot more than to be Tucker's sub, and Tucker is happy to give Elliot exactly what he begs for. Lanyon has always been top notch at writing love scenes, and this is certainly no different. But in her capable hands, the couple are more than just eye candy. Sparks fly between the two, whether at odds on a case, or in the bedroom, reconnecting and remembering what made them fall for each other in the first place.

My favorite couple in not just Josh's books, but m/m in general.

Highly entertaining sequel + excellent narration

Overall, I found FAIR PLAY to be appreciably better than the first book, FAIR GAME.

Storyline-wise, the writing was tighter and there seemed to be less glossing over or 'gaps' in the flow, despite the single POV of Elliott. The mystery/suspense plot was just as good as in the first book, but the relationship/romance between Elliott and Tucker felt more tangible.

Narration-wise, major thumbs-up to have J.F. Harding narrate this second book (as well as the final one). One of my favorite narrators, his cadence & vocalising are both more natural and varied to my ear.

Ancient stories and old ghosts can lead to murder

Where does Fair Play rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Fair Play is definitely one of my prefered audiobooks but I haven't listened to a lot yet!
You know Josh Lanyon is really a good author mixing mysteries, love, a touch of sex and some deep reflexions about life... Very interesting :)

What did you like best about this story?

I like a lot the two main characters, Elliott and Tucker, who are fighting to build a long-term relationship through the mess of Elliott's life and feelings.
This is the background for a thrilling story involving people (but who?) wanting Elliott's father dead...

What does J. F. Harding bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration was extremely pleasant. JF Harding adds his warm expressive voice to the well written story with great sensitivity. I prefered this narration to the one in Fair Game, the first opus of this story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

False deads can hide true ones...

Fair Play Review

Great series! I hope the author does not kill off their primary characters when they want to end the story line. Just leave them in nether nether land alive and well please! Why get so realistic at the end?

Incredible mystery and lovely romance

Once again there really isn't anything new I can add to my previous reviews as to how amazing this trilogy is. Sometimes when the reader recalls the whos, whats, and whys it makes it hard to re-visit the mystery but not in the case(pun totally intended😉) of Josh Lanyon's All's Fair trilogy. Tucker and Elliott are just as entertaining both on the personal front as well as occupational. I found the secondary characters to still be just as necessary, none of them are page-fillers, from the one-to-two-scene characters to the in-almost-as-much-as-the-main, they all serve a purpose.

There is two different narrators for the trilogy, Sawyer Allerde reads Fair Game and JF Harding reads Fair Play and Fair Chance. Both voices are perfect for the story and the characters, making for a very enjoyable listen and though I may not re-listen super often, I do look forward to doing so again and I know that I'll be just as intrigued and sucked in on the 100th listen as I was with this first time.

Great book

In my opinion this one was better than the first book and I am so very happy this narrator was chosen rather than the previous one. The narration is very good and the story is much easier to follow so all in all a much better book.

Enjoyable...

I read Fair Game (the first book in this series) many years ago and was unaware that their was a series. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet Elliot and Tucker and watched how their relationship developed. I enjoyed meeting the discernable Roland and how he played such a role in the story. When I finished Fair Game, I thought the HEA was there and I was good. Now, stumbling on the second in the series, I see that there was more to the story. Though the concept of the story was a bit predictable, which is not typical in Josh Lanyon's writing, I did enjoy the story and I am glad that I discovered that there was indeed a series. I will now finish up with Fair Chance, because I see the strings left in this story. Narration by J. F. Harding was absolute and added to the story.
