Hamilton at his best

Loved this one. Can’t wait for the next installment. Lots of high energy and drama. Hamilton is a master of huge doses of deep tech with excellent storytelling and plot weaving.

Good, but

In a far flung world where the species evolved to have new branches over 40,000 years, somehow the F-word remains a constant. The book would have been better without the gratuitous overuse. If you’re going to write sci-fi please get creative with the swearing rather than fall back on old tricks.

A big royal family drama. Narration not so great.

It’s certainly got world-building, with hierarchies of cosmic beings and ancient tech. The space battles raise interesting practicalities.
But mostly it’s a drama about power struggles between family dynasties and political and criminal factions. Characters upon characters, very few likable in any way.
The narrator has perfect diction, but minimal range of expression. Staccato monotone. A good narrator can at least help you understand who is speaking. That would have helped a lot in this case.

worldbuilding

The way Peter makes you inhabit the world is enjoyable. And in the end big thing happen as well.

Gripping story line.

The story draws you in and holds you. The plot is dramatic and characters are compelling.

Great book

Deserving of an instant 2nd read, especially in the absence of a new title from Reynolds.

Grandiose Sci-fi.
ALL woven together in an attractive and comfortable fashion.

If I need to critique anything it’s that the dialogue was at points repetitive. **asterias as$…**
But I mean repeat yourself as much as you want.
The world building the pacing the character development all god tier.

Absolutely solid believable universe. Then confidently and logically breaking what I thought was possible to push the story forward.

I continually thought to my self “oh wow I never realized that was possible”

i work in aerospace and really enjoyed the accurate terminology used to describe spacecraft
I’ll also note the use of extremely thoughtful and accurate scientific information.

The work was amazing.
Perfectly Dense. It covered a ton of ground. I wish it kept going.

Only reason it’s not a 10/10 is that I got lost occasionally. Misplacing characters places. Etc. I think I could’ve been more attentive.

Really REALLY looking forward to the next book.

Can't wait for the next book in the series. You authors and your suspenseful cliff hangers make it hard to shut my brain off at night.
