muy bueno
Reviewed in Spain
“An even more intense and courageous second part. Goldsholl raises the bar with a perfect blend of dark fantasy and social criticism. Cutter City is a brutal reflection of modern reality: racism, violence, and political manipulation. Harsh, intelligent, and deeply human. A reading that makes you uncomfortable... and awakens you.” [translation from the Spanish]

A Wild Ride Through Chaos, Courage, and Just Enough Weirdness
This book is like if The Hunger Games went to an art school, took a philosophy class, and then joined a late-night comedy show. It’s dark, clever, and somehow still manages to make you laugh right after making you cringe at humanity. I loved the unpredictable mix of animals, politics, and poetic absurdity. It’s the kind of story where karma wears steel-toed boot, and you can’t look away. Disturbing, hilarious, and weirdly hopeful.”

Brutal Satire That Hits Too Close to Home
Book two escalates everything that made the first installment compelling and uncomfortable. Following young Daniela in the hostile territory of Cutter City, Goldsholl doesn't pull punches in depicting a dystopian America where white nationalism runs rampant and mass shootings barely make news. The satirical portraits of politicians and commissioners are grotesquely funny yet chillingly recognizable. While the fantasy elements with the Deor factions continue to drive the plot, it's the unflinching social commentary that makes this both a gripping read and a mirror to our current reality.”

Gripping and Relevant
This book masterfully blends sharp social commentary with dark, unforgettable fantasy. It pits hope against cruelty in a world frighteningly close to ours. The vivid characters and moral complexity stay with you, challenging your views long after. A brilliant, unsettling story that’s as thought-provoking as it is beautifully crafted.”

The Children have arrived and are being hunted. The first Child, Samuel Eli Jackson, is–for now–safely living in a cottage on the edge of the Motherland. The second Child, Daniela Esperanza, is currently parentless, and being raised by an elderly retired nun in the heart of Cutter City, which is the Killapaka domain, and the headquarters of Boner’s America First, Last, and In-Between Militia, legally organized under the name, “The Unidentified and Incognito P Company, LLC (“The Pee Company”). The Pee Company has already “disappeared” Dani’s parents, and the color of the little girl’s skin has put a target on her back. Not to mention that there are so many daily mass shootings in Cutter City, those events rarely get news coverage.
There is hope. A small group of people hope to snatch Dani from under the nose of the powerful Kills and General Rex Boner, the Pee Company leader.
This is a complex fantasy, with a - surprisingly! - happy ending. Karma is, after all, just.
The trilogy is a dark, epic fantasy, with animals as its focus.
