A searing exploration of femininity and womanhood, Every Black Girl Dances hits the truth-telling mark. Fans of Jayne Allen’s Black Girls Must Die Exhausted and Candice Carty-Williams’ Queenie will rejoice at the tight writing and honesty.

JC Burke catapulted straight from film school to Hollywood darling, churning out “Black trauma” films that have made her a household name but at what price? When she abandons the set of her latest production to flee to her hometown Parable, Texas, JC is forced to reconsider the career that made her a superstar, as well as reexamine her deteriorating relationship with her producing partner, Hudson Pyke.

A romantic connection with high school Media Technology teacher Luke Favors (dubbed The Hottie Professor in a viral social media post) alleviates a bit of the sting from her disappointments, but is Luke enough to keep JC away from Hollywood forever, or will she return to the privilege she turned her back on?

i loved all of it. i really don't have anything else to say. it was great.

That J C didn't let Hudson destroy her life. She walked away and let her peace take over.

This was my first exposure to the work by Candice and the narrator, Jasmin. It was very good storyline, and the narration was amazing. JC seemed like that black young lady that had to prove herself in that line of work. She had to confront the opinion of others based on her style of film. It can be difficult when there are those opinions of others that is not in line with your passion. Then, her boyfriend, Hudson, may have affected her self esteem to the point that she hung on to him, when she had good reason to leave. I'm not sure if I missed it, but didn't remember how Luke grew fond of her. I know she did a favor for him for his students, which he appreciated. Ever since, he felt he was good for her, as her man. He knew Hudson was no good, but for some reason JC couldn't initially leave him alone. Then, she realized he wasn't, and that unique kind of therapy helped which she needed - to express how she felt about that relationship, with her best friend, and her illness. There were a lot of life lessons that black women can grasp on their outlook in life and to work towards being a better person. There was a positive message portrayed that can result in a good effect for a black woman. OAN ..JC needs to go on and marry Luke. He was good for her.

Through Dance There's a Powerful Message ❤️
