Acerca de esta escucha
You know Miss Havisham.
The world's most famous jilted bride.
This is her daughter’s story.
Raised in the darkness of Satis House where the clocks never tick, the beautiful Estella is bred to hate men and to keep her heart cold as the grave.
She knows she doesn’t feel things quite like other people do but is this just the result of her strange upbringing?
As she watches the brutal treatment of women around her, hatred hardens into a core of vengeance, and when she finds herself married to the abusive Drummle, she is forced to make a deadly choice:
Should she embrace the darkness within her and exact her revenge?
A stunningly original, gripping Gothic story, perfect for fans of Stacey Halls, Madeline Miller and Jessie Burton.

Amazing until the ending
I loved this book! It was so well written and all of the characters stayed true to the source material. Even the clever use of using Charles Dicken’s description and details of certain events. My only issue with the book was the ending.
Spoilers from here, don’t read below if you don’t want to know how it ends.
I understand this book is “retelling” BUT it matched up with the original Great Expectations UNTIL the ending. There are so many different ways the ending could have been better. 164yr old spoiler here for Great Expectations is Drummle dies during a horseback riding accident. In Estella’s Revenge she just keeps him doped up in a room before becoming some vigilante to “women who needed rescuing from men”. I don’t mind that part, good for Estella! But the author could have killed Drummle off by Estella drugging him whenever he would go horseback riding. That is the ONE detail that Drummle was known for doing! I’ve never been more mad at an ending. I enjoyed everything until Chapter Seventy-One where the ending felt rushed and an afterthought.

Reader was too melodramatic. It felt overacted to the point that I cringed with second-hand embarrassment.
The story was better at the beginning, but I was distracted from the story by the reader’s melodramatic reading.
