Acerca de esta escucha
In today's economic and political climate, protecting yourself means asking the right questions. You can't ask the right questions if your mind's encumbered by what you think you may understand. Who's the man behind the curtain? What's this thing we call money? It's not what you think. We've burdened government with all our problems but do they have the capacity to solve them? Do we want them to?
What's the difference between freedom "of" and freedom "from" and why's it important? Why is this one of the most important questions you can ask? I'm putting out an APB for critical thinking skills. We need these skills at this important juncture in our nation's history. Is our political division a permanent condition? What's the one thing we all have in common? Information isn't lacking these days, which is why our ability to sift purposefully through it is critical.
Prepare to meet the future. It always arrives sooner than expected. Are you ready?

Stephanie Kelton's brilliant exploration of modern monetary theory (MMT) dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient infrastructure. Any ambitious proposal, however, inevitably runs into the buzz saw of how to find the money to pay for it, rooted in myths about deficits that are hobbling us as a country.

The top 1 percent of Americans control 40 percent of the nation's wealth. And, as Joseph E. Stiglitz explains, while those at the top enjoy the best health care, education, and benefits of wealth, they fail to realize that "their fate is bound up with how the other 99 percent live." Stiglitz draws on his deep understanding of economics to show that growing inequality is not inevitable. He examines our current state, then teases out its implications for democracy, for monetary and budgetary policy, and for globalization. He closes with a plan for a more just and prosperous future.

If you asked most people what forces led to today’s unprecedented income inequality and financial crashes, no one would say the Federal Reserve. For most of its history, the Fed has enjoyed the fawning adoration of the press. When the economy grew, it was credited to the Fed. When the economy imploded in 2008, the Fed got credit for rescuing us.

Over 4,000 students gathered at the University of Michigan to hear Republican Party candidate Ron Paul speak. As he began to address the topics of monetary policy and the coming depression, a chant rose from the crowd, "End the Fed! End the Fed!" As dollar bills were lit on fire and thrown into the night skies, it became clear that the real problem, one that nobody in the media was talking about, was the central bank-an unconstitutional entity and a political, economic, and moral disaster.

The Great Recession that began in 2007 is now more than four years old - and counting. Some 24 million Americans are unemployed or underemployed, and at recent rates of job creation we won’t be back to normal levels of employment until late this decade. This is a tragedy. Do we have to accept it? "No!" is the resounding answer given by Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman in this call to arms. We have seen this situation before and we know how to fix it; all we lack is the political will to take action.

If Keynes was wrong then so are the economic policies of virtually all world governments today.

There was no single, dramatic event that set the current financial crisis off. A whole series of very questionable decisions by many people, in many places, over a period of years, built up the pressures that led to a sudden collapse of the housing market and of financial institutions that began to fall like dominoes as a result of investing in securities based on housing prices. This book is designed to unravel the tangled threads of that story.

Clear, Pragmatic Look at the American Condition
In "Escaping Oz: An Observer's Reflections", Jim Mosquera lays bare the realities of economics, politics, law & justice, business ethics, religion, immigration, and so many other complex components that have been blended together, seasoned, and stewed to make up the America ... and the world in which it exists ... today!
Using the metaphor of a shop in an ancient bazaar, Mr. Mosquera walks us through time and function to give us a unique perspective into what was and what is. but subtly implying that it is the reader ... and all the rest ... who will determine what will be. He gives us the data to enrich our knowledge but leaves it to us to define wisdom.

Insightful and a great listen!
This book is deeply insightful, yet enjoyable to listen to. The author does a fantastic job outlining the present state of the economy and answering some of the questions that confuse and cloud our understanding of what are the underlying causes of society's trajectory. Of course, some of the topics make for great debates, but the author does a great job setting up his point of view and engaging the reader in the analysis. If you are tired of not understanding the currents of money, economics, and politics, this is a great book to read or listen to for a refresh and exposure to new topics.

The economy complexity
Would you listen to Escaping Oz again? Why?
maybe. It complex material and it is hard to understand in the first listen
Would you be willing to try another book from Jim Mosquera? Why or why not?
yes. Maybe then I will see the entire picture
Which scene was your favorite?
the subprime crash
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It's too complex to listen at once. You need time to do so
Any additional comments?
I don't agree with all of it. Reading the assent of money can help. There are still many controversial ideas that I need to process

An Intelligent Conversation Piece!
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
I enjoyed the information provided in simplistic terms. There were patches of humour throughout, preventing it from sounding like a dry lecture.
Any additional comments?
I used to converse daily with several other educated friends. This book reminded me of some of the deep discussions we would engage in. Some points are so basic, even fundamental, it's baffling not everyone sees and understands it.
Other topics were new - almost foreign to me - but the author/narrator made it easy to listen to and follow.
I truly enjoyed this books and its insights. Thank you for a well writen and descriptive book. The examples were elementary, without being juvenile!

Very interesting and informative
This book kept me engaged and I learned a lot about the relationship between politics and money. I would definitely purchase another book as Jim Mosquera seems very knowledgeable in this area. My only criticism would be that the author self-narrates and he speaks just a bit too fast for me, although he speaks clearly and his pronunciation is perfect. I often had to go back and re-listen to portions of the audiobook to grasp what was being said. I am currently listening to a fictional story: 2020 Chandler Scott, Book 1 By: Jim Mosquera, Narrated by: Jim Mosquera and again am disappointed in the narration. I slowed the ipod speed which helped, but I think I would enjoy it better if someone else had done the narration. I am really enjoying the storyline in 2020 though.
