Join Ellen and Keighty as we continue with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, covering the second half of Chapter One (Dudley Demented) and the corresponding film scenes.

While we love Harry Potter, we do not condone or agree with its creator’s ignorant opinions. We stand with the trans community.

I agree, I don't think the way the dementors were written in the book includes being able to pick someone up by the throat. But I also thought Harry noticed the dementor trying to pry Dudley's hands away from his mouth in the book and then I didn't hear that in this week's summary/description, so maybe I made it up like Ellen made up Rita Skeeter's appearance in the 5th movie (which I was totally picturing as well)! I definitely missed the details that were changed and left out of the movie, like Harry's sick burns on Vernon and Dudley. Side note, I also hated Harry while re-reading this book because he was so resentful towards his friends, Dumbledore, etc., and it was honestly annoying getting through all the caps lock Harry moments. But I do understand where his anger is coming from and he does become much more level-headed again by the end of the series which makes me love him again. I can't remember exactly how I felt or imagined things the first time I read the series, since it was so long ago and I was so young. I just remember being 100% Team Harry 100% of the time. So I don't think I felt that way the first time I read this book. It was easier for me to relate to Harry and the other students when I was a child/teenager myself. Harry was the character I identified with the most, since we share a birthday, we were both dorky kids with glasses and [nearly] black hair, and a love of adventure and friendship. Obviously still love reading the books in my adult years too, especially since it does give me a different perspective. Now I would say I probably identify most with Mcgonagall; she is definitely #Goalz<3 Another example, I remember Ron saying things in the book that I was thinking--evidently we had the same mental and emotional capacity when I was a kid. During my re-reads as an adult, I have been shocked and annoyed by his lack of tact. I think this shows how talented Rowling really was as an author. Looking forward to the episodes covering this book-movie compare and contrast! Thanks Ellen and Keighty!
