What if the shortest book in the Old Testament held the loudest warning for our modern hearts? Enemies of the Heart brings the ancient words of the prophet Obadiah into urgent focus for today’s world. In just 21 verses, Obadiah unmasks the deadly effects of pride, silence, misplaced trust, and gloating over others’ pain. But he also reveals a stunning hope: God sees everything, and justice is not delayed forever.

Pastor and Biblical Scholar Matt Walker Thrift guides listeners through this forgotten corner of Scripture with pastoral warmth, cultural insight, and gospel clarity. Each chapter unpacks a fresh warning and invitation—from God’s use of the unseen and unqualified to the dangers of spiritual arrogance to the cost of standing by when others suffer.

This is not just a commentary—it’s a mirror. If you’ve ever been betrayed, carried secret bitterness, or struggled with the injustice of this world, Enemies of the Heart will speak directly to your soul. And if you’ve ever been tempted to stay silent or safe in a world on fire, this book will call you to something more courageous.

Perfect for small group studies and personal devotion, leaders wrestling with spiritual pride, and anyone seeking justice, mercy, and humility in an age of outrage.

Let Obadiah show you that even the smallest voice can carry the weight of eternity—and that God’s justice is not just coming…it’s already on the move.

Pastor Matt’s breakdown of scripture is amazing and helps to place Obadiah in a perspective that is relative today!
There is something he says that will sit with me for the rest of my life “Sin is not just what you do, it’s also what you refuse to do”.
So often we make ourselves believe that our silence keeps us away from the “possible arguments” regarding the injustice of the world; but Matt quotes James 4:17, and it is a reminder that we have a duty as Christians to speak on these things.
Enemies of the Heart takes us back to Esau and Jacob for historical context so you can better understand what is happening in the book of Obadiah. It will benefit every single person to read this book as a reminder of how we ought to be and how we ought to not treat our neighbors in need. Thank you for your powerful message, Matt!!
