Emma was relieved that her past mistake of jealousy and revenge over Benny liking Mary Ellen was finally behind her. No one even mentioned it, especially now that she and MaryEllen were the best of friends. The month of May had arrived in Sacramento and school would be out for the summer in a matter of weeks. She had plans to work with her mother and grandmother at the dress shop and life was good.

Mrs. Markham was in the middle of writing the new spelling words on the board when there was a slight disturbance at the back of the room. Two very good-looking boys were being escorted into the classroom by their parents. Mrs. Markham immediately stopped what she was doing to talk to the parents. Within minutes, Mrs. Markham introduced the two new boys to the class. The older one, Mark, was 17 and Emma couldn't keep her eyes off of him. Michael was younger at 15. They each took a seat and Emma thought for sure her heart would pound out of her chest. Maybe her prayers were going to be answered after all and possibly Mark might be attracted to her!
