Resumen del Editor

This is the story of a beautiful, young woman — a talented athlete and musician, raised in a loving home, surrounded by friends — undermined by a ruthless inner voice that claimed her body and her spirit. Emilee: The Story of a Girl and Her Family Hijacked by Anorexia reveals the cracks in our health care system, the institutions we are taught to trust, as well as our own prejudices and misinformation about eating disorders, mental illness, and addiction.

Through the use of parallel narrative, Linda and John Mazur provide an intimate and realistic account of how their world was turned upside down by anorexia nervosa. A must-listen for physicians, therapists, and social workers, or anyone who wants to learn more about how to respond more compassionately to families and patients caught in the web of this cruel disease.

A Necessary Read

To my shame, I initially found myself being a little critical of Linda and John's focus on their children's achievements. I later understood they were showing that even as a determined high achiever Emilee found the challenge of battling this frightening disease overwhelming. Thank you for bravely sharing your story, I can only imagine your fear and then your frustration trying to get help when doors were constantly being closed. in my attempt to learn more about this complex disease I also learnt about a familiy's selfless love. An important read.

This book needed a better editor

This is the heartbreaking story of losing a child to anorexia. It was undoubtedly extremely painful to write and my heart goes out to this family. I’d like to give this book more stars, but the pacing is terrible. Emilee has a self-published feel to it because it contains too many unnecessary details which drag down its powerful content.

Heartfelt and beautifully written. Unconditional and profound love for their child. Thank you for sharing and pointing out the misunderstandings of eating disorders along with other mental illnesses.

About a devoted family whose daughter had an eating disorder

I felt this was a very honest and well written biography by devoted parents about their child who was very gifted and highly educated and had an eating disorder. The feelings and coping they experienced were described in detail. They make an excellent case for improving health care of persons and families experiencing eating disorders. Get it. Read it! It’s important.

NO! No and more no. This book is infuriating and immoral.

This book seriously made me me furious. At the outset I knew exactly where the authors were going and WHY. These people , the authors DID make their daughter sick and tried to paint the picture of what wonderful parents they were. They droned on about their perfect parenting, perfect relatives so of COURSE they were not to blame. WRONG! This mother claims to be anxious and concerned about her own weight her whole life! Hello Vern! Seriously? What a SELFISH woman this Emily was. Gross…. Truly unbelievable. Those doctors were right to tell the parents they should not bring her back. Anorexia … PA leeze… people are you aware of WHY there are labels? So the shrinks can get paid. Yes Sir. Look it up. Total nonsense. This self absorbed woman was selfish selfish and more. Her poor ex-husband was correct to leave her… drama drama attention needing blah blah. Emily’s mother is a nut case and her father…. All yapping about their religion…. At the wedding the son in law should have told him off! How dare this father . Gross. Nasty book. These people want to blame healthcare etc…. NOPE they raised her. It is all their fault.
