Eddie Rickenbacker was a World War I Flying Ace, a Medal of Honor winner, and even a racecar driver. But did you know that his first attempt at flying was to ride his bicycle off the roof of his house while holding an umbrella?

Growing up in the Midwest in the early 1900s, young Eddie, whose parents were Swiss immigrants, worked hard to help support his family. But he still found time to build a "pushmobile", to experience a thrilling ride in a horseless carriage, and to come face-to-face with a moving train.
