Bero knows how to tell a story. In 1998, she purchased 60 acres to forage wild foods from and become a subsistence farmer with her family. Seven years later, Kathy’s idyllic rural lifestyle was turned upside down. In 2005, she was diagnosed with stage IV inflammatory breast cancer and in 2006 a high-grade tumor in her head and neck.
