The Dumont Island Boarding House, nestled in the rugged beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, is a destination only reachable by car ferry. The island's infrastructure is simplistic, with most roads consisting of gravel and only the central road being paved. Among the island's amenities are a general store, a post office, souvenir shops, and a cozy café. Scattered along the breathtaking coastline, a handful of cottages add to the island's charm.
Located on the island's far side, the boarding house offers a unique, rustic experience. Electricity, supplied by a generator, is only available for a brief time during the early evening hours, replaced by the soft glow of gasoline lanterns at night. Despite the limited resources, the island's close-knit community thrives. Here, everyone knows everyone, and a shared sense of community and neighborliness pervades, ensuring that all residents take care of each other.
