A New York Times best-selling author and America's preeminent political satirist, P. J. O'Rourke also has another side to him - a gear-loose gearhead, automotive devotee, and terrifying driver.

Son and grandson of car dealers in Ohio, P.J.'s family has been in the motor vehicle business since before there were motors in vehicles. And P.J. has been writing about cars - for Car and Driver, Automobile, Esquire, Forbes, and other publications - for what seems like almost as long.

In this newly collected anthology of spiels-on-wheels, O'Rourke celebrates cars and berates car haters, and chronicles America's relationship with automobiles from love for a powerful chariot of freedom to tolerance of an oversized household appliance with an extra-long extension cord. Driving Like Crazy brings together 30-some years of journalistic cornering on two wheels, none of which has been reprinted before. Or almost none of which. P.J. did include his classic "How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink". And he's written an appendix to that piece of sage advice for those who, like himself, are 30 years older now: "How to Do Ditto While the Drugs Are Mostly Lipitor".

If you could sum up Driving Like Crazy in three words, what would they be?

I'm a 58 year old car junky and I loved this book. A couple of chapters are slow, but I loved this book. It was great.

I laughed so hard it hurt.

All my experience with P.J. O'Rourke books had been about politics or social commentary. This book literally takes a different highway to hilarity! Disengage from the rat race and join P.J. on a Baja adventure, driving with children and driving like crazy in India.
A fun journey!

Crazy Car Man! P.J. O'Rourke is great!

A fantastic book for P.J.'s fans and car guys alike.
You get to grow up with Pj and his love of the automobile
In just a few short hours.

Great stories, excellent narration.

Witty, intelligent, a little crude in his earlier writings, but this is the pattern of all of O'Rourke's compilations. (The book gathers some thirty plus years of his magazine writing.) If you like P.J. then you'll love this book. If you've never read any of his work then this is a good place to start.

He's an unapologetic car lover who likes cars for cars' sake. Not pretentiously selecting out just his favorite make or style, but he likes cars, and conveys this across the entirety of the book.

Classic O'Rourke
