Jesse, a young anthropologist, disappears somewhere in the highlands of West Sumatra, and Jack is hired to find her. There's evidence that she was involved in the Kabut cult, a secret society practicing ancient tribal magic. Jack travels to Bukittinggi as the city erupts in the exotic sounds of celebration at the end of Ramadan, the Moslem holy month of fasting. Fun trip.
While in Bali (after "Dreams of Bali")Jack Flanders is approached in by a wealthy woman who wants him to search for her daughter, an anthropology student who went missing in Bikkitingi, a city in Sumatra near two volcanoes. Jack meets his pal Mojo, who helps him to eventually follow the metaphysical trail into a dimensional vortex, where he has to extricate the girl from the snares of illusion. There is a lot of Sufi mysticism along the way. If you like "Word Jazz", you'll like some of the stream of consciousness dialog/monolog that results. As usual with these adventures, the audio production is outstanding, and well worth the trip: Tons of local color, lush ambient sound, clever sound effects, great voice acting, with the usual jokes, puns, and pearls of wisdom along the way... and original music in a more or less traditional style. There are some especially lengthy musical interludes this one that I really liked. Fun trip.
