Assistant Professor John Beal, an Oxford-trained Englishman, is one of the most popular teachers on his campus, but he might not be for much longer.

He didn't start out to be a teacher. When he was a student at Magdalen College in 1947, he thought he was going to be a poet. His ambition seemed to be derailed when he became a Classics professor, but his students at Iverson University in 1965 believe his classes are even more inspiring than poetry. They’re so devoted to him that when they hear rumors that he might get fired, they’re ready to take dramatic action.

Exactly what kind of action would actually help save Beal’s job isn’t clear. What’s clear is that the students are willing to do absolutely anything to save their man. And on a college campus where the sexual revolution is in full swing, anything could mean . . .
