Acerca de esta escucha
She could imagine the headlines all too well. . . DEATH ON POSSETT ISLAND: Well-known Playwright Found Dead on Christmas Tree.
Dimpson McCabe - Dimpsie - has invited his closest friends of the theatre world to join him for Christmas at his castle on a private island some hours' drive from Edinburgh. The festivities have barely begun when Dimpsie is found draped atop the Christmas tree, electrocuted by the lights. It's labelled Accidental Death, but in the swirling snow suspicion is dancing among the flakes. Through Dimpsie's cadre of directors, producers, actors and agents runs a hot streak of hidden grievances and theatrical scheming, and upon return to London the dogged Inspector Smith begins to circle, seeking to find the leading man or prima donna responsible.
First published in 1948 and lost for over 75 years, this Christmas novel returns to bedazzle a fresh audience of mystery-lovers.

Uncle Willie has come to stay with the Redpaths for the holidays. It is just their luck for him to be found dead the morning after Christmas day, dressed in his Santa Claus costume, seemingly poisoned by his favourite chocolates. While hot on the heels of serial coupon-racketeer Gordon Ginner, Chief Inspector MacDonald of Scotland Yard receives word of an intriguing incident up in Lancashire – the summer cottage of local farmer Giles Hoggett has been broken into, with an assortment of seemingly random items missing which include a complete reel of salmon line, a large sack, and two iron dogs from his fireplace. What first appears as a simple break-in quickly spirals into a mystery of contested land grabs for fishing between farmers, made all the more enticing to MacDonald when a body is then found in the river.

The main aim of detective stories is to entertain, but the best cast a light on human behaviour and display both literary ambition and accomplishment. Even unpretentious detective stories, written for unashamedly commercial reasons, can give us clues to the past and give us insight into a long-vanished world that, for all its imperfections, continues to fascinate.

The story is kind of misogynist I think, but I had fun
This is an old fashioned mystery, with a large cast of characters all under suspicion. The narrator is good at voices, but the distinction between chapters is lacking.

there are two Henrys so that's rather confusing
had to relisten to the first part a couple of times. Two Henrys... seriously? The good: the tone, pacing, and Catherine - but would have liked more of her, our heroine. Had to speed up a bit, and liked the narration better at that speed

Meh....
Very disappointed! The murderer is too obvious, and the characters are ALL very tired cliches! Audible charged an additional amount beyond 1 credit for it!
